Experience

Before I began teaching for Pike County, I was selected as a teacher leader for People to People. This was a program through the Alabama Governor's Office.  With this program, I traveled to different countries with high academic students. During my time with this program I have travelled to over 30 countries. Upon returning to the United States, my first year, I was selected as a teacher leader from Alabama to travel to Washington DC. While in Washington, we conducted meetings with government officials.  I feel this helped me bring a wealth of information and experience to my teaching career.

I began working  for Pike County in 1991 as a Speech Language Pathologist. During my tenure as the Speech Pathologist I worked with preschool through 12th grade students. I worked with local health agencies and area Audiologist in order to better serve my students. I have attended many workshops and conferences to update my skills. I attend the Alabama Speech and Hearing Association Conference for Alabama regularly.

I in 2011-2013 I taught 5th/ 6th grade Language Arts and Science at Pike County Elementary. I was trained in AMSTI science for both grade levels. I am proud to be a Highly Qualified teacher in Alabama.  I enjoyed my time as regular classroom teacher.

I am currently serving as a Resource Teacher for Banks Middle School. I am happy to be joining the Banks family.

I am originally from Union Springs, Alabama.  First attending Jefferson Davis Jr. College in Brewton on a softball scholarship. Upon completion of the two year system I transferred to Troy University on a leadership Scholarship. Graduating with a B.S (1991) in Elementary Education. I began working for Pike County Schools in 1991. I finished my B.S (1994) in Speech Pathology from Auburn University in Montgomery.  I helped with Pike County High's softball team one year (we made area playoffs). I later was the cheerleader coach at PCHS for 4 years.  I loved it!  Completing my M.S (1999) and my Ed.S (2001) in Educational Leadership from Troy University in Dothan.

I am married to Daryl Calhoun and I have two children Sarah Elizabeth and Jace. I am a member of First Baptist Church in Troy. I am a proud and thankful cancer survivor. I enjoy traveling, shopping, and spending time with my family.
